Recent changes in the law have formalized the procedure for obtaining a name change. Which procedure we use depends on whether the name change involves a minor child or an adult. In some cases, it may be necessary to obtain background checks from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the South Carolina Department of Social Services. In many cases, it is not even necessary to attend a court hearing which helps reduce the expense of obtaining the name change.
