Child Support

Child Support attorney

South Carolina law requires both parents to financially support their child(ren). Failure to support a child could result in criminal and civil penalties, including the termination of parental rights.

The amount of child support is usually determined using the South Carolina Department of Social Services Child Support Guidelines. The guidelines use a formula that calculates the amount of child support based on each parent’s percentage of both parents’ combined gross monthly income. Expenses such as health insurance, daycare costs and extraordinary medical expenses are not included in the basic child support obligation and should be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
